Program Goals

  1. To improve scientific training for community college students and enhance their practical knowledge of science and research.

  2. To bolster the scientific training of students who are passionate about science.

  3. To develop the first scientific community for the students via networking events.

  4. To enhance students’ understanding of further education in science and potential career paths.

Program Description

CORE (CCOP Opportunities in Research Engagement) is a 10-week research internship program for community college students. Every year, our program runs three sessions, Spring (March to May), Summer (June to August), and Fall (September to November). To support students’ financial needs, we provide a stipend based on Stanford’s salary range.

To accommodate students’ class schedules, the Spring and Fall sessions are designed to be 10 hours in-person lab time per week, while Summer sessions are a 40 hour per week commitment. Students in the program will be treated as valued colleagues and will be taught about science and how to conduct research by their laboratory mentor. During the program, students will be participating in two workshops on reading a scientific paper and on giving a talk. At the end of the program, students will present their projects at a research symposium.
